1.0 Background of Study
What is nuclear energy? Nuclear energy is a natural source consist of uranium as the main substance to generate electricity. Nuclear energy have been used by the develop countries such as United States of America and Germany. For further information, Malaysia also want to generate electricity by using nuclear energy in 2023 and substitutes fossil fuel as the main source of electricity. It is because nuclear have quite many of advantages than the other sources. But it is also have many disadvantages and it will effects to organism and non-organism.
Nuclear energy is not so famous compared to fossil fuel, hydro and wind as the sources of electricity. The aim of this study is to explore the benefits of nuclear energy as the generator of electricity either it will get good supportability or not. Besides, there are lack of information about nuclear energy. This study provides a medium to people especially students in Universiti Malaysia Pahang to compose their perception about nuclear energy. Instead of Malaysia's plan to use nuclear energy, it is important to people to get as many knowledge as they can about nuclear energy either gives many advantages or not. Although the concept of this study is just to get the perception, but it could gain some knowledge to Universiti Malaysia Pahang's students.
1.0.1Problem Statement
The issue of this study is there is lack of information about nuclear energy. In this case of study, student should have some information on nuclear energy because our country has plans to generate the electricity by using nuclear energy.
1.1 Research Objective
1.1.1 To find out the student's understanding about the implications of nuclear energy.
1.1.2 To analysis the factors that influence our country to use nuclear energy in generates the electricity after the uses of fossil fuel.
1.2 Research Question
1.2.1 What do they think about the advantage and disadvantage of nuclear energy
1.2.2 Why Malaysia choose nuclear energy as an alternative way to generate electricity
1.3 Definition of Terms
Nuclear energy is a source of electricity. The main substance in nuclear energy is uranium which is a natural source. Nuclear energy can generate much electricity compared to fossil fuel and hydro. It is helps several country to stabilize their politics, economy and social. Nuclear energy involves nuclear atom that could bring advantages and also disadvantages. The considerations of using nuclear energy as the source of electricity need to plan very effective to avoid bad condition in the future.
1.4 Review of Methodology
The survey questionnaire is the main method to collect the data about nuclear energy. The type of questions is non-random. It is because it is strictly for Manufacturing and Mechatronic engineering students. There are several type of questions such as open response, dichotomous and multiple choice. It is to produce a better condition for students in answering the questionnaire. 60 sets of questionnaire has been provided as the medium to collect data in details and it produces some ideas in nuclear energy.
1.5 Organization of Chapters
1.5.1 Introduction
Introduction is about the background propose of the study which is consist of the details explanation about the title chose, objectives of the study, the questions that need to be considered and the definition of term.
1.5.2 Review of literature
There are 3 articles for each member and it is divided to 3 parts which are the definition of nuclear energy, the benefits of nuclear energy and the effects from nuclear energy. The articles needs to summarize to get the details information in each part.
1.5.3 Methodology
This section is divided into 3 parts. First part is the person that involves in this study or easy to called it 'Participant' and this part describes about the age,gender,course and year. It is important to make an analysis about the study. Second part is data collection instrument where the survey questionnaire located according to research objectives and research questions.
1.5.4 Finding and discussion
Finding and discussion is to make the details information after the collection of data. It will also consist of suggestion and results that relate to the introduction. The relates facts and the survey would be combined to get the more efficient data.
